Naturally Ithaca , the small Greek, island near Cephalonia was the starting point, the origin and the real inspiration of our short story...
ITHACA, the kingdom where the great and intelligent hero Odysseus created by Homer so many centuries ago was born, was the most important cornerstone of our new project VIÑEDOS DE ITHACA in the Priorat region of Spain.
ODYSSEUS
Joseph Puig and his daughter Sílvia were fascinated by the story and the myth and, knowing that the Greeks were the first to plant vineyards in the Iberian Peninsula, they decided to pay tribute to those ancient vine growers.
Where to start was the question. In the end the plan was simple . Start by buying the land , study and analyse the soil then plant the vineyards in the Priorat just like the Greeks did in their time and whose objective was to produce high quality wines with limited production. SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL.
Another thing that had to be considered was that to work for something we loved and inherited from our ancestors could be a very important and exciting prospect, and is all important and central to this concept.
The message was very clear…

WINE IS FUN, IS LOVE, IS LIFE
If there is a beautiful story behind the wine in which one believes fervently, then it is easier to develop the structure, objectives, investigation, the concept and other details related to our job.
Everything, absolutely everything, even the daily work gets more sensitive, human, happier and even funnier; just like a friend of our called Alan Young says:
WINE IS ALSO FUN
And he is right because we enjoy ourselves…in our vineyard each piece of land has the name of one of Odysseus’s characters, the barrels have no numbers but mythical names, in order not to break the harmony of the ancient world.
The conclusion of this project is that our wine is not the result of routine work but very much the product of the love and care of two individuals who have inherited a cultural legacy from the ancient Greeks
